It’s a “two lawyers walk into a bar” story but this time instead of talking about the local sports team or the latest legal developments, they talk about compliance training. One lawyer, let’s call him Ben was bemoaning the fact that he had wasted a couple of hours of his life completing his mandatory training which was overdue.
The other lawyer, let’s call him Matt, had also finished his anti money laundering training that week. But his firm worked with us so showed Ben our course as he had not been bored at all but rather enjoyed the course.
This is a small example of why building engaging training matters. All Ben could remember was the pain of the training and in all likelihood he will not have remembered anything substantive about the content. We have just reinforced his aversion to compliance and a dread of repeating next year.
Contrast that with Matt. He positively enjoyed the course we developed. He actively approached other team members to see how they did – a positive message about doing compliance!
So in the pub Matt enjoyed showing him our approach. Not to sell E3 (although it did result in that) but mostly for the pleasure in seeing his friend’s face when he realised that Matt had not had to endure the pain he had gone through.
[Schadenfreude](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude) (/ˈʃɑːdənfrɔɪdə/; German: [ˈʃaːdn̩ˌfʁɔʏ̯də] (About this sound listen); lit. ‘harm-joy’) is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another.
That’s why E3 was born. Want to see for yourself? Then just get in touch.
